Primed my Great Bears black and left them on my desk. Strangely, it’s an incentive to get those 15 IFP models done and off my table, literally, because I can’t use my computer without stabbing my arms and hands on their pikes.
I got called off to my parents to eat dinner, so I went to watch National Treasure 2 (with Nicholas Cage) on my PS3. Entertaining and fun movie – I don’t see much of those lately. Next I loaded up Resident Evil 5, which I’m finding quite entertaining as well. I’m on chapter 4 and finished up to 5, and it has been a lot of fun fighting machine-gun toting “infected”, lickers, reapers, etc.
I’ve been playing conservatively with my ammo, smashing skulls and spines with my stun rod, which unfortunately is quite annoying given the style of gameplay. Last night I was quite liberal with the shotgun and scoped rifle. There’s a morbid sense of satisfaction and power from destroying bugs and zombies at a distance. When you whack a zombie with the stun rod, they just simply fall over, shake a bit and dissolve.
Anyways, the trade off to boring melee combat with the stun rod (all you can do is swing – it’s not a melee-based game after all) is the expenditure of ammo?! I was starving for ammo. I have tons in my stash, but I want to keep it there. My weapons are not upgraded, as I’ve been conservative with my cash too. I want to upgrade my weapons so that I kill better… faster…
So I turned to the online FAQs to see how I can spend my money. It’s when I learned about infinite ammo. Now I’m anxious to get back to my parents’ and play some more. That’s when I realized that no video game has made me excited and anxious about playing it for fun in a long while. Disgaea 3 was fun, but the desire to play it stemmed from compulsion. Last game was perhaps Metal Gear Solid 4, and Dynasty Warriors 6 before that. RE5, it’s about good-ol zombie blasting, with enough RPG elements to make it fun for me :)

So I’m getting back into painting again! I assembled the Great Bears of Gallowswood. They each have special cork bases and I can’t wait to paint them! Of course, I wanted them to be similar to the Iron Fang Pikemen in paint scheme. My IFP were the latest models I have been painting, and they are partially painted. I haven’t painted in almost 6 months, so they have been collecting plenty of dust.
During those past 6 months, I have dusted them off twice with the intent of finishing them. Each time, the duster I use would catch one on their pike or something and I would send it flying into my drawer or crashing into the carpet. This weekend, four of the twelve were catapulted. I only noticed minor paint chipping on one of them, but it doesn’t matter – these are just base coats anyways!
Tonight, I am hoping to prime my Great Bears after work and start painting them, along with the other 12 IFP this week (when time permits). It feels good to at least think about getting into the hobby aspect of miniatures gaming again :)

A blog/site is only good when it’s interesting… and has pictures… and only remains interesting when it is updated regularly. I don’t think I’m accomplishing ANY of the above :P
I’ve been active reading Mk2 rules, thinking Mk2, denoting the differences between Mk1 and Mk2 on my wiki (though I shouldn’t as Mk2 is a reset, thus nothing to compare it to :P), and hopefully getting some games in next week!
I’ll be in Vegas this weekend though :)

Yup… the rules for WARMACHINE Mark II become available to the public next Monday! I have a post-it as a reminder on my work monitor, which I’ll move to the center of the screen Friday afternoon to make sure I get them first thing in the morning, before something terrible happens to delay it like the Privateer Press web servers get overloaded. *shudder* from fear and excitement!! Can’t wait to let my thoughts feast on some new material!
In other related news, I finally got my hands on No Quarter #23, but the spoilers that have been floating around the Privateer Press forums have really watered down the article. It lacked excitement because it felt like I’ve already read it without reading it :( Fortunately, it was nice to know that the lead designer was interviewed back in December, and that PP really have given MkII much thought, time and effort, all the while keeping it under wraps for a good year. Good job PP. I do not expect you to disappoint ;)

This was the largest gathering of WM/HORDES players that I have been a part of, ever. Supposedly this is the largest event in SoCal since SoCal GenCon 2006, though I believe it might have been bigger than even that.
My legs are still sore from standing all day. My back has recovered from leaning over a table all day. I slept in practically all day on Sunday from the mental and physical exhaustion of the event. It was all worth it! I got in 4 good games, met a lot of people, caught up with old friends and got to talk a lot of WARMACHINE – something I do not get to do often anymore :(
For playing with half of my army for the first time, I did pretty well going 3-1. They were all pretty much “bad matchups”. P+S 10 arrows don’t do much against non-living models and jacks, and my first opponent was Karchev and 5 jacks. Concentrating fire on Karchev and above-average dice rolling (thank you eLylyth’s “signs and portents”) won me that game.
My next opponent was eDeneghra and lots of undead. I got swamped by his army and pinned down by eDenny’s feat while losing my entire unit of Archers to her Dark Seduction. I barely eeked out a victory by capping eDenny with my Warbeasts, who all had added range due to eLylyth’s feat.
Round 3 was against a player I face at practically every big tournament that I have been to. eHaley nerfed my army with her Deceleration and his army made it very, very difficult to get a bead on her. I threw all I had at a very poor attempt to bring her down. Though my army can dish out the damage, they still need to hit without extra dice. He did a great job of tying up my Archers to prevent them from CRA’ing effectively.
Round 4 pitted me against another Cygnar player using eStryker. It was primarily an infantry-heavy force utilizing Cygnar’s melee units – 2x Stormblades, Stormguard, and Sword Knights. I popped my feat the first turn to cut through a lot of his infantry, but eStryker had a Deceleration-like spell (maybe it IS Deceleration, and eHaley’s spell has a different name). Actually ran out of time (with bonus time too) and Lylyth would only have 3 Fury for the following turn :/ Ran out of time again and Lylyth was stuck in the open with all her fury. Stryker charged in and only hit once, which she easily transferred away. She shot and killed Stryker easily since he had already done more than half the damage to himself (by overpowering his armor).
All in all, it was plenty of fun! So much so that I’m “active” on many of the forums again. Hopefully this “high” will last until next year!

Finally finished assembling the Raptors. I might need to fill gaps (between the riders’ torsos and their mount piece), but not until I’m ready to paint them (2011 sometime). I also assembled the Strider UA, but will add the basing pumice tonight. Other than that, I am done assembling. I do not have time to assemble a base unit of striders, so I’ll be using an already-painted unit that I bought.
My “bare metal army” will have some color after all. Couldn’t be avoided since I planned on using two already-painted Seraphs. So tomorrow I’ll be playing games with totally new models and rules, against models that have been released that I have never played against, playing a game I haven’t played in almost half a year. I’ll just stick to my plan – stick my opponent with arrows. Dozens of arrows.

Finally got my copy of Metamorphosis! Also ordered were Sabol Army Transport foam trays for my new Legion army, of which I still need to finish assembling. I was glancing through the Legion section and noting at how cool everything was. When I started reading the Strider unit attachment, I remembered – I had also ordered them!! I dug through the box I was about to throw out to pull out the blister. That was a close call. Those models are pretty cool, but they do seem larger than regular Striders. Didn’t have any normal ones on hand to compare.
So, what’s left to assemble: 5 Raptors and a Strider UA (2 models). I plan on using my bought-painted Striders, but if I have time, I will assemble a new unit so that my army can retain its consistent bare-metal look (unfortunately :P).

… in terms of HORDES. I glued the heads on my raptor mounts on Friday. There was a work emergency on Saturday that had me go to the office for a few hours. After that was whiskey time in downtown Long Beach. A late wake up to go play a Monsterpocalypse team game. After that I wound up at my parents’ until the late hours, after which I spent until the wee hours playing Atlantica Online. I’m finding that I get levels fast if I stick to the main story and stop diverting from it! My Exorcist is level 46 and has gotten 99% of all his experience from quest rewards. Unfortunately he’s locked away again in a merc room whose license has expired.
UPS is expected to deliver my Metamorphosis and Strider UA today, so I hope they’ll leave it at my doorstep. Unfortunately my next three weeknights are going to be busy (one of which includes D&D game night) so I won’t be able to finish up my Legion army until 2 days before the big Smackdown!
